Approach
The Ottawa Fusion Volleyball Club has been very successful in representing Ottawa in the competitive volleyball community through out Ontario, Canada and Internationally.

Tryouts happen in September/October, kicking off an intense 8-month season until May. COMPETE team members commit to 3 weekly practices plus strength and conditioning. Teams participate in 7-10 tournaments, mainly in Ontario, with possible U.S. locations. All Fusion teams attend Provincial Championships (April) and Nationals (May) or equivalent.
We uphold a unified high standard at our club, offering one Elite High Performance Standard for all COMPETE teams. Athletes stay on their selected team for the season, engaging in competitive training to foster teamwork during tournaments.

Competition involves 4-6 OVA Tournaments, 2-3 Additional Tournaments, and 1 Provincial Championship and National Championships or equivalent.​​

Welcome to Ottawa Fusion Volleyball Competitive Team Tryouts 2025-26

Please read carefully the following information before proceeding to registration.
​
TRYOUT FORMAT
Tryouts include 2-3 on-court sessions plus 1 fitness evaluation.
​
On-court sessions run 90-120 minutes and include both individual and team skill training and evaluation. Our coaches will first demonstrate skills then support the athlete during the process. Effort, receptivity to feedback, and athleticism are key performance indicators our coaches are looking for.

Fitness evaluations run approximately 60 minutes and are provided by our Elite Strength and Conditioning partner SportScience Rehab and Performance (https://www.sportsciencecanada.com/) You will receive an email (sent to the address used in registration) with instructions on how to schedule your fitness session.
​
In the fitness evaluation the athlete will be exposed to the most comprehensive fitness assessment available in the province. A detailed report will be provided to all athletes following the tryout period (regardless of tryout outcome). For athletes selected to Compete Teams, this assessment will be your baseline from which you will be tested throughout the season.

All tryout sessions and fitness testing should be considered mandatory. In the event of an injury, please contact our club head coach (ClubHC@Ottawafusion.ca) to inform of your absence. Priority will be given to athletes with complete testing profiles.

Please watch the website for tryout changes. We do everything possible to maintain the schedule but changes do occasionally happen.

TRYOUT COSTS
• Now - Sept 5: $75 per athlete (advance registration)
• Sept 6 and Later: $100 per athlete (late registration)

AGE GROUPS
Ontario Volleyball has developed a comprehensive age categorization to ensure athletes are provided the opportunity to compete in a class commensurate with physical development.
We ask all athletes to register and report to the on-court sessions designated for their chronological age category.
​
Evaluation results are made available to all our coaches. Should an athlete demonstrate they have both the technical skills and physical attributes to play up in age, consideration will be given. Similar if an athlete is born between September and December, they can be given consideration to play at the age group that is one year younger. During the tryout process we make every attempt to best identify what team best fits the athletes long term development in the sport.

Tryouts start September 5, 2025!
During on court assessments, athletes will rotate through courts where coaches will explain how each skill is being evaluated. Volleyball is a late development sport and as such we recognize that not all athletes come with the same level of previous experience. For this reason we continue to place significant value in the objective assessments conducted by our partners at Sport Science Performance Centre. The fitness assessments helps demonstrate key attributes often found in developing volleyball athletes. Coaches will take into account all on court scores and the fitness assessment when making their selections. ​

The selection process follows the Tryout policy of the Ontario Volleyball Association. It is important that parents are aware of the policy and obligations. Although offers will be provided as early as the date listed, It is important to note that not all athletes will accept an offer and as such coaches will continue to present offers in the subsequent days until all roster spots are full.
