The in-season generally runs October to May, culminating with Provincial and National level tournaments. Ottawa Fusion Volleyball Club also includes summer programs free of charge for athletes on our competitive teams (i.e. June Dryland Training and Summer Tournaments). Tryouts are held in September.
Registration for Fusion COMPETE opens in August of each year. We encourage everyone interested to follow us on one of our social media channels to know exactly when registration opens.
You will find the current season's year and team match up on our Fusion COMPETE page. We prioritize "at level" tryouts first, meaning the child should try out for the team based on their birth year first. Following that tryout coaches may decide to move the athlete up or down a team, which will be discussed with both the athlete and the parents.
Fusion COMPETE teams generally practice in Barrhaven and Kanata areas Monday-Sunday. The tentative schedules and locations are posted at the same time as registration is opened for that season.
Kids with little to no experience ages 11-14 are highly encouraged to tryout. Volleyball is a late development sport and you will find that most athletes in the gym have other sport experience and little volleyball experience. Coaches are generally looking for athleticism and coachability at this age level.
Athletes ages 15-18 will need more volleyball experience in either a school team environment or other club teams. Coaches for those age groups are looking at athleticism and volleyball skill.
Player Evaluation - Athletes must attend their age group's player evaluation to be considered for the team
Fitness Testing - Athletes must reserve a time slot and attend at least 1 Fitness Testing session. Please ensure to register for Tryouts and pay online before reserving a fitness testing time slot. You will need your check-in code from the tryouts registration confirmation email to reserve.
Open gym - These sessions have the atmosphere and intensity that you may expect in tryouts, giving the athletes a chance to get some extra touches in before show-time at tryouts. These are optional but recommended for athletes. Attendance at these session does not affect an athlete's probability of making a team.
Parent information session - This is designed to go over the details of the club and competitive team environment. You can expect a formal presentation (on the anticipated costs for the year, schedule for the season etc.) as well as the opportunity to ask questions.
