Provincials finally arrived and we were all looking forward to lots of fun and great volleyball. After a long drive, a team meeting helped us get prepared. We were ranked 25 in division 2 and hoping to move up. Our first game was at 9 o’clock on Friday morning against Markham Gold. We were off to a great start winning the first set, but with a close loss in the second we ended up in a third set but couldn’t pull it together to win with scores of 25-23, 23-25 and 11-15. Everybody was pretty disappointed about losing our very first match at Provincials, but May was, as usual, up and cheering. She came up with a very funny cheer for aces which helped us stay positive and win our second match easily in 2 sets against Royal City winning 25-17 ; 25-16. The third and final game of the day was against Vista. We had a close first set, losing by only a couple of points. The second set was one of the most exciting sets I’ve played and we played our hardest and managed to get a 27-29 win, but we fell apart in the third and lost.
Day 2 at Provincials was loaded with fun and excitement. It started off with a great win in 3 sets against the Orillia Suns. The second game was against Forest City Grey and once again we had a great start by winning the first set. The second set was close, but as we slowly started to fall apart, we just weren’t capable of getting a win in second and third set. The third game against Pegasus Rip Tide was not our best game. Although we really wanted a win we just weren’t able to pull it together in time.
Later that day we had quite a night. It started off with some instruction to get changed into something you didn’t mind getting wet, which we all thought was a little strange but went along with it. We were surprised to find out we were going to have a water balloon toss with a partner of your choice. Amanda and Izzy won the first round after two balloons failed to make it to the partner and one exploded all over one lucky girl Sabrina. The second round lasted longer and some of us managed to make to a greater distance. It was down to Emily and Alex against Shahar and Jordan, but when Jordan managed to get her balloon over the fence Alex and Emily were crowned the winners. Then came a hilarious game of charades in which we discovered Sabrina’s hidden talent of acting.
The third day of Provincials was do or die, so we were all ready and excited to play. We brought our A game and won the first game in only 2 sets against Sting Rays Rush winning 25-14, 25-17 . We had no break before we were back in to action for our second game of the day. With amazing serves from Jordan and great team work we also won our next 2 sets seeing results of 25-17, 25-17. Our third game didn’t go as planned. Although we weren’t going out without a fight but with all the girls starting to feel tired from playing all morning, we lost the first set 20-25 and unfortunately weren’t able to pull it together to win the second set. This was a disappointment. After having lost in quarters and tied for 5th in Tier 2 Division 2, we were back on the road dreading the long drive home. We all still had in mind Nationals in 2 weeks and getting ready to play some more volleyball.
