Our Fusion team traveled to Sherbrooke on the Thursday, and everybody had got to the hotel at different times. By the time the whole team was settled into the hotel it was basically straight to bed for our Fusion team. Luckily we got to sleep in a little bit the next day since our games didn’t start until 3 o’clock. The team had decided to go to the grocery store in the morning to get some healthy snacks and lots of fruit for the day. Later on we all got psyched up for our first day of Nationals. We filled up our coolers got ready and headed out to the University.
Day 1:
The first games were tough and we lost our first two. The first game we lost to 13U DRVC. We lost 21-25 and 20-25. The second game we also lost. This time it was to Celtique PSNM which we lost 16-25 and 19-25. We decided to step it up and try harder. We really wanted to leave the first day with at least one victory. So we went into the next game wanting to win it more than anything else. We were playing Toronto West, and we focused and did our visualization. We also had consistent serves which helped us win the first set 25-12. We got a little goofy and our focus was gone, so we lost the next set 22-25. For the third set we played hard and beat them by only 2 points making the score 17-15 for us.
We finished our games at around 9:30 and headed back for the hotel that was 45 minutes away. Most girls were very tired and slept in the car.
Day 2:
Going into our second day we wanted to win very badly. We wanted to beat each team in our pool and we almost achieved our goal. We got to the gym and we were pumped up and ready to play. Our fist game was against Oakville Thunder White. We were ready to beat this team and we did. We took both sets from them, 25-13 and 25-10. We were happy after beating this team with ease so we went into the next game wanting it even more then the first game. Now we were playing Red Bliss Carman Eagles and we beat them also. The first set was our win with 25-19, then next set we weren’t so fortunate we lost 19-25. Then we were into the third set and we were playing great. We won 15-6. We moved onto our last game of the day. It decided if we came into the gym early or in the afternoon, but it also decided if we were automatically in the semi finals. We really didn’t want to wake up early so we played hard but apparently trying hard wasn’t enough to beat this team because the Waterloo Tigers won the first set 10-25. This was not good so the next set we pulled it together and won 25-20. Third set once again and we wanted it. Sadly we lost 13-15, we were so close but not close enough and we lost the game against the Tigers. Now we had to wake up early and we had to work the long way around to make our way into the semi-finals.
Day 3:
It was Mother’s day and we were in the playoffs. If we lost the first game we were out and done for the year. Our first game was at 11:15 AM against Interclub and we wanted that game so badly. We worked really hard and fought back. And that brought us to win both sets, the first one was 25-23 and the second one was 25-19. Our next game (semi-finals) was at 1:45 PM against the Northumberland Breakers. It was a tight game, we almost lost the first set but we came back up and won it 26-24. The second set was tight as well, but we worked even harder at the end and we won it! Now we were going into the Finals for gold at 4:15 PM against Durham Attack – Chris, a team which we had never won a game against all season. We really wanted that game. We lost the first set 20-25. The second set we won 25-23. Onto the third set which we fought back and won 17-15, by working very hard. We won the gold medal for our moms!
