The Volleyball Academy is now entering its 3rd summer. The Academy is unlike any other program offered for the volleyball player looking to take their skills to their highest levels. Each summer the Academy works with athletes as young as 14 years of age and also with a growing list of athletes currently playing among the college/university ranks and professionally in Europe.
The Academy program is designed for those athletes prepared to put in the time and energy required to improve their game so they can compete with the very best. The Academy provides an opportunity for athletes to work with our areas top coaches and direct access to specialized professionals in the Conditioning, Nutrition, and Mental Training areas.
Our 14U - 17U Volleyball Academy will have the opportunity to work under the guidance of Jeff Mooney and myself. Athletes will experience an 8-week intensive summer training program focused on skill correction and refinement. Training time will be primarily dedicated to addressing individual technical issues that often do not get attended to in normal team practice situations. Since the Academy is not team based, we have no team performance priorities and have the capacity to focus solely on individual performance. Thus, it becomes possible for us to take the time to correct individual deficiencies that in season tend to get put off, ignored or compensated for through the use of team systems.
18U players will experience the opportunity to refine specific areas of their game required to excel within the college and university systems.
As you can see, this is an advanced program for serious athletes so there are a few recommendations for program entry.
1. Athletes are encouraged to engage in fitness programming. It can be their own (if supervised by a certified trainer) or it can be the one we provide (which is supervised by Chris Schwarz, a certified fitness trainer, the Ottawa Senators strength and conditioning coach, and a former European professional volleyball player).
2. Indoor clubs need to be informed of your participation in this program and have them send us a notice that they are aware of your participation.
3. Participation in beach volleyball is also encouraged.
We will plan a program meeting for early June and at this meeting players will be able to get the full details of the program and formally commit to the training, but for now players who think they might be interested (even if they are not yet 100% certain) should go to the SportsCan site and fill out the pre-registration form provided there (http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dEdkYU5uWUltdmx3aEpWbHREV3hQR0E6MQ) so that we can get to know a little bit about who's considering the program how often they might be interested in training.
