A stroke of luck found the 17U Girls making the relatively quick trip to Kingston for the 17U Challenge Cup. This time, the girls found themselves coming into the tournament ranked 4th with a couple of the top teams playing tournaments south of the border. The girls had been working hard in practice and were eager to get on the court.
Playing in the pool of 4 teams, we played each match to 2 games only. We split our first two matches against the Predators Purple and Georgetown Impact. In the third, we faced the Falcons, playing them point for point until we were able to break away and win both games - 25-23, 25-22. Finishing second in our pool gave us a break from the pre-quarter finals. After our break, we took the court against the Stingers Gold, taking the quarter-final match in 2 games. Forest City Green was up next. We lost the match in 2 but we took them to 29-27 in the second - another close one against this strong team.
We made our way to the Bronze medal match, tired but ready to take our first shot at a Premier Division medal. A long day and some very close matches left us a little tired. We kept up with the Predators all the way but lost the first game 28-26. The Predators got away on a strong serving streak in the second leaving us with a 4th place finish for the day.
Once again, we'd like to thank the many parents who made the trip. Thanks to Cathy & Linden, as always, who kept us motivated and focused.
