Perhaps it was the fact that this was 15U Girls Red's first time this season to sleep at a hotel, or perhaps it was the later start to the morning, whatever the reason, 15U Red had a rough start to the day. First they met up against the Barrie Elites Black and were beaten 14-25, 22-25. Up against Peterborough Thunder next, our girls had still not hit their stride and lost 22-25 and 12-25.
As parents started to make plans tfor an early return to Ottawa, our girls took on the Maverick Colts. Coming up against rivals seemed to ignite a fire in their bellies and our much improved Fusion girls came away with a sound victory, winning in two-25-20 and 25-10. The girls were back!!
Next up against Toronto’s Interclub-Blue saw another win for our girls in two, 25-14 and 25-22. This moved them into the semi-finals. Toronto’s Diamonds-Blue proved a tough team to beat-but we prevailed. After two excellent close games - first for us 25-21 and then one for the Diamonds 22-25, the Fusion girls played an awesome third game and won 15-11. Onto the gold metal round!!
In the finals our girls were up against Peterborough Thunder again. In the first game, Fusion played very well but was outplayed by Thunder 21-25. We came back strongly in the next game to beat them 25-20. The final game of the day was closer than the score would suggest. Fusion Red fought hard and made Thunder work for every point. In the end, Thunder took the last game 6-15.
A silver medal for Fusion 15U Girls Red in their final tournament before the Provincials! Well played ladies, we are very proud of you.
Many thanks go out to Coach Linden and to Team Manager/Assistant Coach extraordinaire Kathleen. Keep doing what you’re doing. Onward and upward!
