15U Red

15U Girls Red Learning and Growing (PHOTOS)

The 15U Girls Red team struggled early at the Championship East Challenge Cup tournament in Orleans, Ontario but showed their spirit and never-quit attitude in several tough matches.

Playing in their first tournament with a new rotation presented some challenges, but the Fusion pulled it together well, splitting their first game with Durham Attack (25-21, 17-25).  A disappointing loss to North Bay in a back-to-back match (25-20, 25-23) was followed by a strong win against Northumberland Breakers (18-25, 14-25).  The team ended pool play even, with 3 wins, 3 losses.

The playoffs started slow against the Knights VC, losing the opening game (13-25), but coming back strong with wins in the second and third (25-17, 25-12) to take the match.

A loss to the eventual tournament winning DRVC in the quarter finals (25-10, 25-22) was followed by a 3 set loss to Storm Blast, resulting in a 7th place finish.

Throughout the day the team showed character and determination, learning a new rotation that will serve them well in tournaments to come.  Thanks to coach Irena Zamboni and help from 16U coach Matt Hoey for guiding the team.

Our next road trip will be on February 27th to an as yet undisclosed location.
