Fusion Coach Cathy O'Doherty Honoured for Volleyball Volunteerism (PHOTOS)

The OFVC’s Cathy O’Doherty was presented with a Celebration 2010 Award on January 17th by MPP Jim Watson (Ottawa West–Nepean) for her longstanding sport volunteerism.  Her numerous years of selfless contributions to volleyball club and coach development, and dedication to on-court coaching earned her the recognition in a new award program honouring the unsung sporting heroes in Ottawa.

“There are people in our city who spend thousands of volunteer hours helping our beloved athletes reach their dreams and make us proud,” said Watson. “These awards will turn the spotlight on them, by giving them the recognition they deserve. As we head towards the 2010 Olympics, this is a great opportunity for Ottawa residents to celebrate unsung heroes in sport and recreation.”

O’Doherty had unknowingly been nominated by parents of former players, led by Brigitte Belanger-McGuinty.  OFVC representatives and former players were in attendance to help celebrate her special recognition.

Congratulations Cathy and thank you on behalf of the OFVC family.
